Which stylist should you choose?

By Catherine  ·  April 2026

Choosing a new stylist is one of the most common dilemmas clients face — especially if a previous stylist has moved on. Here's how to think about it.

What the price tiers mean

Like most modern salons, Hair Gallery has a price range that reflects experience and, to some extent, demand. This doesn't mean a Graduate Stylist can't execute a perfect cut — far from it. But the difference you get with more experienced stylists is in the conversation: the advice, the troubleshooting of things no-one else has ever been able to fix, and the suggestions you didn't know you needed.

If you love to change your hair and want a stylist who will bring ideas and ask the right questions, our more experienced team members are likely a better fit. If you want regular trims and a consistent, reliable result, any member of the team will look after you beautifully.

Don't be afraid to try someone different

Many clients would rather change salons entirely than change stylists within the same one — usually for fear of causing upset. After 40 years in hairdressing and working with well over 50 stylists across seven salons, I can tell you: no stylist has ever been upset by a client sitting in someone else's chair. Every stylist on our team would rather you stayed in the salon.

Plenty of our clients move happily between two or three of us depending on what they need or who's available. It's more common than you'd think, and it's completely fine.

Specialisms worth knowing about

Some members of the team have particular areas they've developed beyond the standard range. Emily is our balayage specialist. Ellie specialises in colouring and short cuts. Lauren offers perming alongside colouring and cutting. If your main concern falls into a specialist area, it's worth booking with the person who does it most.

Have a look at the team page to get a sense of everyone, including any specialist areas. And if you're still unsure, just give us a call — we're happy to talk it through and point you in the right direction.
