What is Nioxin Dermabrasion?
Nioxin is the world's number one brand for thinning hair, and their Dermabrasion Scalp Treatment is one of the most effective in-salon services we offer. The name sounds a little clinical, but the treatment itself is deeply relaxing — think of it as a professional facial for your scalp.
Dermabrasion simply means exfoliation. Just as the skin on your face benefits from having dead cells, excess oil and product build-up removed, so does your scalp. In fact, scalp skin renews itself every 24 to 28 days — and if that process is sluggish, dead cells and sebum can accumulate around the hair follicle, making the environment far less favourable for healthy growth.
How does it work?
The Nioxin Dermabrasion treatment uses a professional micro-exfoliation system to clear the scalp surface gently but thoroughly — removing dead skin cells, sebum and product residue that can clog the follicle opening.
What makes our service genuinely different is the scalp analysis we carry out using a microscope — at the start of the appointment and again at the end. Before we begin, we examine the scalp closely to identify any areas of congestion, sensitivity or concern. Afterwards, we repeat the analysis so you can see the visible difference for yourself. Clients are often surprised by what those before and after images reveal.
Who is it for?
This treatment is ideal for anyone experiencing:
- Thinning or fine hair
- Hair that feels limp or lacks volume
- A congested, itchy or uncomfortable scalp
- Flakiness or product build-up
- Slow hair growth
- Alopecia
We have seen some wonderful results. One of our clients came to us with alopecia and began a course of in-salon Dermabrasion treatments alongside the Nioxin home care range. Within just a couple of months she noticed her hair visibly thickening and growing back in areas that had previously been very sparse. Results like that remind us exactly why we love this treatment so much.
What does the treatment involve?
You'll begin with a scalp analysis under the microscope so we have a clear picture of your scalp's condition before we start. The treatment is then applied to the scalp and worked in using a professional technique — thorough but comfortable, and most clients find it deeply relaxing. We finish with a second scalp analysis so you can see the results straight away. Allow around 45 minutes for the full appointment.
How often should you have it?
For general scalp maintenance, once every six to eight weeks works well alongside your regular hair appointments. If you're dealing with thinning, alopecia or a more congested scalp, a closer course of treatments — monthly to begin with — will give you the best results. We'll advise you on the right programme at your first appointment.
The Nioxin home care range
To get the most from your in-salon treatment, using Nioxin at home between visits makes a significant difference. The UK range currently comprises four systems, each designed for a different hair type and degree of thinning:
- System 1 — Natural hair with light thinning
- System 2 — Natural hair with progressed thinning
- System 3 — Colour treated hair with light thinning
- System 4 — Colour treated hair with progressed thinning
Each system includes a cleanser (shampoo), scalp revitaliser (conditioner) and scalp treatment. Used consistently, the home care range helps to maintain the clear follicle environment the in-salon treatment creates — and that consistency is exactly what produces the kind of results our clients tell us about.
We'll recommend the right system for you at your appointment. We don't carry all four systems in stock at all times, but we can order any system in for you — just ask.
Not sure if this treatment is right for you? Ask us when you're next in — we're happy to take a look at your scalp and talk through what we'd recommend. No obligation, no pressure.
